Of Venom and Nectar

O Jagannath, Lord of the World,
Your pitch black body and blood-red eyes
absorb the darkness of this world,
on that stormy night
You allowed me to see
Your form which swallows Time.

O Jagannath, Lord of the Night,
Your lightning burst forth
from the rain-filled storm clouds,
black at pitch,
showing me Your form
which tastes of
venom and nectar…
